Renovating a deck to make it safe, modern and useable was the client’s request at this home in Avalon. The home had a fabulous bush outlook and our client, Bill, wanted to be able to utilise his outdoor space for entertaining.

The existing deck on the second floor of this home needed replacement. Dependabuild worked with Bill to ensure the build met Australian Standards to guarantee safety and endurance. We decided to remove the original structure and replace the posts, beams and joists to create a whole new balcony.

Removing the original structure, the client was then able to envision a style of balcony that would add to his lifestyle or future renovations.

Bill chose a hardwood decking that will last for many years to come. We used 86mm boards of Spotted Gum which is a hardy wood that is recommended for high volume traffic and outdoor use. Its colour and easy care fit into the natural bush setting that appears nonobstructive to the environment and can be suitably tailored to your size of decking. The second story balcony needed to be held with beams that are resilient to harsh weather conditions, Spotted Gum delivers this and more.

The Balustrade is made from Design Pine coated in white to add an attractive surround to the deck as well as creating airflow and safety. Bill was keen to have the decking enclosed in an appealing easy-care fashion which Design Pine provides. Wildlife can be damaging to the frame of a second story decking. Bill decided that the Design Pine coated with a luxury finish would be a perfect choice to reduce any destruction from the much-loved animals within the area enabling him to enjoy the co-existence that nature has to offer.
